THE COMMUNIQUE OF THE PUBLIC PRESENTATION ON REPORT OF BASELINE STUDY ON TAX IN NIGERIA AND THE  LAUNCHING OF NATIONAL PLATFORM ON TAX JUSTICE IN NIGERIA AT BOLTON WHITE HOTEL, ABUJA, ON AUGUST 14, 2012
Preamble

Civil Society organisations in Nigeria at the presentation of a report titled ‘Baseline Study on Tax in Nigeria and Launching of National Platform on Tax Justice’ on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 launched a National Platform on Tax Justice Research and Advocacy with the aim of engaging the government in raising awareness on the need for a just, equitable and efficient Tax System.

The study which was commissioned by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), with support from Oxfam Novib, examined the tax system in Nigeria, paying special attention to relationship between tax, social inequality, resource mobilisation for national development and accountability in governance.

Communiqué Issued at the end of a 2-day Multi Stakeholders’ Conference on IDP Protection in Nigeria and the African Union Convention on the protection and Assistance of IDPs held at the Bolton White Hotel, Abuja on 21st and 22nd November 2011

Introduction

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), Abuja in partnership with the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre / Norwegian Refugee Centre (IDMC/NRC), Geneva, Switzerland organized a 2-day multi stakeholders’ conference on Internally Displace Persons (IDPs). The Conference was aimed at examining the plight of IDPs in Nigeria in the light of relevant international and domestic legal frameworks including the Kampala Convention and designing a plan of action for its ratification and domestication, as well as identifying measures for attaining durable solutions to the challenges of internal displacements in Nigeria.

The Conference was attended by about 75 participants drawn from Civil Society and Faith Based Organizations, the academia, international and national humanitarian assistance providing Agencies, relevant government institutions and the media.  There were four plenary sessions in which nine presentations were made by Resource Persons and representatives of relevant organizations and Agencies. Preamble

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) with support from the Heinrich Boll Foundation organized a One day capacity building workshop for members and staff of the committees of the Benue State House of Assembly and Civil Society in the State. The workshop was held at the Benue Hotel, Makurdi Benue State on 7th June 2010. The meeting had 36 participants comprising the target groups for the workshop and media representatives.

Communique issued at the end of the Training-the-Trainers Capacity Building on the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007 Monitoring and Observation for CSOs held at D’Rovans Hotel Ibadan on June 4, 2010.

Communique issued at the end of the Training-the-Trainers Capacity Building on the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007 Monitoring and Observation for CSOs held at D’Rovans Hotel Ibadan on June 4, 2010.

 The workshop, which was organized by Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in collaboration with Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), had a consortium of CSOs and other Non-State Actors (NSAs) in attendance.  Also in attendance are the Executive Director of CISLAC Auwal Musa Rafsanjani and the Director General, BPP Engr. Ezeh Emeka represented by Mohammed Gambo Mu’azu, Deputy Director Training at BPP. 57 Participants attended the training with three key paper presentations.

The objectives of the workshop are as follows:

To increase partnerships between CSOs, the Bureau and government procurement/oversight institutions for a transparent and effective procurement process.

The meeting had 40 participants comprising a broad range of Civil Society Organisations and the media from Kano, Jigawa, Abuja, Kaduna and Katsina States respectively.

Communique issued at the end of Train-the-Trainer Capacity Building workshop on Public Procurement Act 2007 Monitoring and Observation for Civil Society Organisations held at Burgeon Hills Hotel Enugu on June 2nd 2010, organised by Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in collaboration with Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) 
The workshop was attended by over 30 civil society organizations represented by about 60 participants drawn from the south eastern states .the workshop which was declared open by Mallam Shehu Director of compliance at bureau of procurement on behalf of the director general of the bureau also held in attendance the assistant director training of BPP.

Mr. Rhema Ehiemere represented, CISLAC at the workshop while Mr Onyema Emmanuel of crime free CSOS and Barr. Osita Nnamani Ogbu were facilitators.

Preamble

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) organized a One day train the trainer capacity building workshop for Civil Organisations in Kano State. The workshop which is part of a broader implementation including Enugu and Oyo States was held at the Ni’ma Guest Palace Hotel, Nasarawa Kano State on 27th May 2010. The meeting had 82 participants comprising a broad range of Civil Society Organisations and the media from Kano, Jigawa and Taraba States.
