BEYOND COMPLIANCE edited by Musa Abutudu, Dauda Garuba and Kolawole Banwo is an insightful, balanced and yet critical analysis of the contemporary state of the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency initiative (EITI) in Nigeria. Coming from persons that cut across different professional backgrounds, the book appraises and shadow-reports Nigeria’s EITI implementation in a post-compliant period. It is anchored on the understanding that validation test and compliance are not a one-off event, but a five-yearly exercise deserving of consistent progress. In doing that, the book brings forth new achievements and gaps between volunteered commitments and realities, as well as points direction to expanding the NEITI process from its oil and gas-focus to incorporate the solid mineral sector and other neglected, but necessary, stakeholders in the value chain of the extractive industry. Apart from deepening public knowledge of the EITI process in Nigeria, the book seeks to strengthen the country’s standing within the purview of the quality assurance mechanisms that the EITI validation test and compliant status are meant to elicit. It is commended to academic, policy and development work practitioners and several others who are interested in the realization of a Nigeria that is committed to the effective governance of its natural resources for public good. Please contact us to request publications.
